M8 Delayed Text Messages
ProblemHey, I’m having problems with my messaging. I don’t get messages. If I do it comes like 3 hours late. Or whenever I restart my phone. It started acting up about a week ago. I’d like some help please. Thank you.
Solution: Restarting the phone is one of the quickest ways to resolve this issue since it refreshes the phone connection to your network. However in this case it looks like the problem still returns.
What you should do is to determine first if this is a SIM/account related issue or a phone issue. To do this take out the SIM card of your phone and insert it in another phone. See if the messages arrive on time or are delayed. If the messages are delayed then you should contact the carrier regarding this and probably ask for a SIM replacement.
If however your messages arrive on time while the SIM is inserted in another phone then the problem is with the M8.
To troubleshoot the phone start by wiping its cache partition.
  • Turn off the device.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
If the issue persists then do a master reset. Make sure to back up your data before proceeding.
  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.
M8 Crashes After Lollipop Update
ProblemUpdated my HTC M8 to Lollipop and for the first few weeks it worked fine but now it crashes constantly and with each crash it drains the battery by 25 to 50% .When I repower it will crash again and after a try or two it will come on only to crash again . My phone is to a point of being useless . Please help before I smash it against the wall.
Solution: Since this issue occurred after a major software update you really must perform a master reset on your phone. This eliminates any remnant data from the previous software version that has not been totally removed and is causing conflicts with the new software which results in this issue.
M8 Calls Can’t Be Heard
ProblemPlease can you advise me on how to solve an issue. Every now and again, I am unable to make calls or receive, due to not being able to hear each other. I can only solve this by turning my phone on/off around 6 times. This is very very frustrating. It 1st happend when I accepted the HTC update. I had to uninstall it through the advice I found on the internet. Now I am at a lost on how stop it from happening which is normally 4x week. Regards.
Solution: In this type of issue you will need to determine first if this is network related or phone related. The easiest way to do this is to take out the SIM card of your phone then insert it in another phone. If the call issues still persists then this may be a SIM or account related issue. I suggest contacting your carrier regarding this.
If however the issue does not occur then the problem is on the phone side. I suggest doing a master reset since you mentioned this issue occurred right after installing a phone update. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.
M8 Ads Pop Up After Lollipop Update
ProblemHello, I am having a lot of issues with my M8. These issues starting right after the software update was done on it about a week ago. I keep getting random pop up ads off and on. I have tried deleting most of the third party apps on my phone (with a few exceptions). I have contacted Verizon and HTC on this and followed all the steps that they have suggested and non of it works. I would really like to avoid a hard reset on my phone if possible. Some of the ads that pop up tell me it’s my android system that needs to be updated or the keyboard. Other pop ups will bring me to itunes to download candy crush soda, and lastly they will bring me to the Google Play Store to download an app or game. I hate it. I have checked and made sure that pop ups have been blocked, also I have gone into the phone and wiped cache partition. Nothing has helped. If someone can please help me. I loved this phone up until about a week ago. Thank you.
Solution:  These ads are most likely caused by third party apps installed in your phone. If you would like to avoid doing a hard reset then the next best thing to do is to start your phone in Safe Mode to verify if the issue is caused by the apps that you installed.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
If no ads pop up in this mode then the issue is most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what app that is and uninstall it.
M8 Shows Up As Null File In Messenger
ProblemGot an htc one m8 problem. We’re trying to link up to an emergency page system at the firestation. Pages are sent from email and are supposed to show up as a .mp3 file in a text message, but instead they show up as a .null (read/write file?) file and the phone cannot do anything with them. On everyone elses phone, the .mp3 file can be touched and plays a recording of the pageout. On my phone, it simply says it doesnt know what that file is. If I download the file and transfer it to a PC where I can change the file name back to .mp3 or .mp4, I am then able to play the file as normal. So what would be causing the file to be changed to a .null filetype when its received in my messenger? And why does it only do it on my phone out of everyone at the fire station? Additional- it may have something to do with receiving the message from an email, because when I’m sent the message from another phone, it shows up as .mp3 and plays correctly. It only shows up as .null when sent from the dispatch email. I am using sprint. There is one other guy at the fire station using sprint. The source for our messages are both (my phone number)@pm.sprint.com. His works fine and mine doesnt. I’m left to assume the issue is with my phone. Thx in advance!
Solution: This is indeed quite a strange issue. Do you have any security apps installed that may be affecting the way you receive the email as a text message? To check if an app is causing this issue try to start your phone in Safe Mode.
  • Press and hold the Power key.
  • On the screen, touch and hold Power off under Phone Options.
  • When the ‘Reboot to safe mode’ message appears, tap RESTART.
  • When the phone restarts it will be in safe mode.
Once in this mode check and see if the mp3 file that you received can be played. If it can, then the problem I most likely caused by an app installed in your phone. Find out what that app is and uninstall it.
If the problem still remains then try wiping the cache partition of your phone.
If at this point the mp3 is still displayed as a null file then you should consider doing a factory reset on your phone. Make sure to back up all of your phone data before proceeding.
M8 IR Beamer Not Working On Third Party Apps After Lollipop Update
ProblemGreetings! First off, thank you for the article you run and trying to assist us with cell phone issues.  I read the How To Fix Common HTC One M8 Probs/Errs Dripplers when I see them.  However, I don’t believe I’ve seen this particular issue asked/addressed yet and it seems timely with other subjects I’ve been seeing along the lines of issues after the recent Lollipop update.
So, I have Verizon Wireless as my provider.  They updated me on 3/11 to Lollipop v5.0.1 but HTC Sense remained at v6.0 (not sure if any other s/w info/versions would be handy to you).  Most things have been working fine and not too much to complain about but I have noticed that since the update my infrared beamer will not function on 3rd party remote control apps.  I had downloaded and liked quite a bit ASmart Remote soon after I purchased my phone.  I preferred it in some ways over the stock TV app that came pre-installed and included remote functionality.  However, for whatever reason since the update and as best I can tell, now only this stock TV app is able to use the IR beamer properly to control my TV’s and Home Theatre equipment.
I have tried downloading other Universal IR Remote apps from WaveSpark and Sp Infosystems with no success.  I have tried clearing the cache, memory, uninstalling and reinstalling of my preferred app ASmart Remote from Raon Solution HK, one that was touted for Galaxy/HTC & specifically the M8.  It even had a setting that may need to be enabled and phone restarted for HTC Sense 6 users, which I had found was necessary for it to work properly with the IR beamer soon after I initially installed it.  I have tried disabling/restarting and re-enabling/restarting this option still to no avail.  At least one of these other Universal IR Remotes had this same option for if you had Sense 6 which I did the similar actions with no success.
Do you have any suggestions?  Is this a known issue that hopefully HTC or VZW is looking into?  I did try leaving a comment/rating in the store for the ASmart Remote, though I realize I’m currently using their free version, a lot of comments seem old so not sure if they are actively looking/maintaining this app.  But, given that I know the IR Beamer worked on a 3rd party app previously, and now 3 of these apps are all unable to use it, makes me wonder if it is a bigger issue and not necessarily just this app.  I may try 1-2 more new apps, but would appreciate any other ideas/tips you may have.
Solution: This issue is most likely caused by compatibility issues between the third party IR remote apps and the Android Lollipop system. You should try using other third party apps (I recommend the latest ones) and see if they work on your phone. If they do, then the previous apps that you used need to be updated by their respective developers.
M8 Keyboard Not Working After Lollipop Update
ProblemAfter the 5.0 update I have noticed that every couple of days my keyboard will not come up to enter text in any text box… Restart fixes it for a couple of days…I am not using any special boards just the google board with swipe and the HTC sense board neither will come up even if I switch between them… I have shut down all apps and tried again to no avail… Any help on this issue?
Solution: Try to wipe the cache partition of your phone and see if this does the trick.
If the keyboard issue still occurs then I suggest you do a master reset. Make sure to back up your phone data before proceeding.
