Samsung unveiled its latest addition to its Galaxy series in the shape of S5, with 5.1 inches of display and Snapdragon 801 processor which is so call performance kicker by Qualcomm with 2gb of ram.
Display
Samsung Galaxy S5 has 5.1 inches of Super Amoled HD Display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 not Ultra Hd resolution which people expecting from the new flagship. However a good sign about this display is Local Contrast Algorithm, Super Dimming and Adaptive Display Technology which automatically dim the display of your phone in dark environment.
Hardware:
S5 is powered with mighty Snapdragon 801 “performance kicker” processor with a 2.5 GHZ clock speed and 2gb of Ram. According to Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 has 45% faster camera sensor, 28% Faster graphics even though it has Adreno 330 Gpu which is found in Note 3 as it is slightly higher in clock speed which is 578 MHz, 20% Faster CPU and 18% Faster as compared to Note 3 Snapdragon 800 processor. However people are not impressed with the 2GB Ram in S5 as it is same as its predecessor and we have 3gb of ram on Note 3 as well as on upcoming Lg G Pro 2 and Z2.
Design
Samsung Galaxy S5 is not too different in design from its predecessor as its again surrounded by metal which some people believe made up of plastic. However it is still not confirmed whether we have plastic back cover at the back of a device or this time Samsung have used another material to make a back battery cover. Speaker grill is still at the backside of the device. The device is IP67 certified that gives it a license to be dusk and water resistant. Moreover S5 is equipped with Heart Rate Sensor which is situated below 16Mp camera of the device.
Software
S5 will comes up with Android 4.4 Kitkat and runs Samsung Touch Wiz with some ultra features like Ultra Power Saving Mode which will enable your device last up to 20hrs on standby, if your battery goes at 10%. Moreover one of the great features is Kid Mode and finger print sensor which will allow users to protect their personal files inside phone as well as it can be used to do payments. S5 also have heart rate sensor, motion sensors which found in its predecessor. However this time Samsung has changed their toggle structure in the notification bar as compared to its predecessor because this time toggles are colourful and have bigger icons with easy customization.
Internal Memory
There's 16GB of built-in storage in the device, but 8gb of memory has covered by phone software itself which is little bit surprising for me , while a microSD slot will add upto 64GB if needed.
Connectivity
S5 packs Advanced 4G LTE connectivity, NFC, Bluetooth, Ultra Wifi (this is the fastest wifi speed you can get on your phones, GPS, AGPS, Wifi Tethering and packs all other connectivity options that we have on S4.
Battery
Samsung Galaxy S5 is equipped with 2800 MAh battery which seems to me 200 MAh more powerful than S4. However, it would be much better if they have tipped it up to 3000 MAh atleast as Z2 has 3200 MAh battery which offcourse better than S5 battery.
Camera
S5 has 16 MP camera at the back which is capable of recording 1080p (4k) videos at 30 Fps which is big improvement in terms of video recording and camera capturing found in S4. S5 also added new camera modes like Virtual Tour Shot, Select Focus Mode which will allow users to focus on two objects at the same time, HDR (Rich Tone) is redefined as the users don’t have to hold their device until the device clarify the image, just take a photo and it will auto adjust a picture in your S5. There are more features added in the camera mode of the device, but the biggest one is dedicated image processing chip and the decreased shutter speed to 0.3 seconds making it the fastest camera shutter on a mobile device, so offcourse when you are trying to take a snap of fast moving thing you can capture a photo in seconds. On the front of S5 we have 2.1 Mega pixel camera which is very good for Video Calling.
Final Verdict
To give my final verdict we are going to use a SWOT analysis below
Strength
S5 packs a considerable beautiful 5.1 inches display with Finger Print Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Motion Sensors with a Water and Dusk Resistant Capabilities. S5 also have 16mp camera sensor with improved High Dynamic range capabilities and 4k Video Recording.
Weakness
One of the weaknesses I have found in S5 at some extent is its battery as now a days people want long battery life in their phone and S5 only packs 2800 mAh battery whereas its direct competitor Sony Z2 packs 3200 mAh battery . Another thing which people want in galaxy series is build quality of the phone and again Samsung says no to metal, glass and stick to plastic. The biggest weakness is its 2GB of ram as now a day’s companies are after 3GB of ram in their handsets and one of the great example is Lg G Pro 2 and Z2.
Opportunity
Finger Print Sensor, Heart Rate Sensor, Snapdragon 801 with over clocked speed and Camera Shutter Speed can give the device opportunity to compete against its big rivals like Lg, Sony and Apple
Threats
The biggest threat to Samsung Galaxy S5 is Lg Pro G2 and Sony Xperia Z2 and may be in the future Lg G3, Nexus 6 and Note 4.
Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to fall on shelves on 11th April, price is not confirmed yet
