M8 Microphone Not Working During Calls
Problemhave some problem with my microphone. I first thought my mic were completely broken, until I started the record app and found out my microphone is actually working, BUT, my real problem is that the mic will not work when I’m talking on the phone with someone. I wonder if there’s anything I can do before I choose to hard reset the phone. Thanks in advance.
Solution: You can try to wipe the cache partition of your phone first and see if this resolves the issue.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key once to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to RECOVERY.
  • Press the Power key to begin the wipe.
  • The device displays the bootup screen followed by a phone with a red triangle.
  • Press the Up Volume key and Power key at the same time.
  • Press the Down Volume key three times to select Wipe cache partition.
  • Press the Power key to initiate the wipe.
  • Wait until the phone displays Cache wipe complete.
  • Press the Power key to select Reboot system now.
If the problem remains then a factory reset is highly recommended. Make sure to back up your phone data before performing this procedure.
  • Press and hold the Power button
  • Tap Power off.
  • Press and hold the Volume Down key.
  • Press and release the Power key to turn the phone on.
  • Continue holding the Volume Down key.
  • Release the Volume Down key when the three Android images appear on the bottom of the screen.
  • Press the Volume Down key twice to move the cursor from FASTBOOT to FACTORY RESET.
  • Press the Power key to perform the master reset.
M8 Not Receiving Calls/ Messages After Phone Dropped
ProblemHey, I was wondering if you could help me with my phone. My sister dropped it yesterday and it hasn’t been able to receive signal since then. Everything else works perfectly fine and I am able to send messages as long as I have WiFi, but other that, I cannot send or receive messages or calls. Can you tell me what is wrong with it?
Solution: This could already be a hardware related issue. The phone antenna may be affected by the drop or it could be caused by a faulty component in the motherboard responsible for the mobile network connection.
Just to be 100% sure you should first rule out any software related issues by performing a factory reset. Back up your phone data before proceeding.
If the issue still persists then this may already be caused by a faulty hardware. Bring your phone to an authorized service center for checking and repair.
M8 Message Sending Issue
ProblemHello.  I have an HTC One M8 and my carrier is AT&T.  For the past couple of weeks when I send a text message, after hitting the send button, it’s as if I didn’t send a message at all.  I have to re-type my message a second time and send.  It goes through the second time.  It is so frustrating (especially if my message was long).  I have re-started my phone but it didn’t help.  I have also updated the software recently.  The strange thing is that when I start typing the message for the second time, it knows what word I am going to type because it comes up in my predictive text box. Also, there a few people who send me texts and I cannot open them.  It shows that they sent me a message and it has this:
  • From: Jane Doe
  • Subject:
  • Message size: 1KB
  • Expires: May 27
  • Download
When I hit the download button it tries to download the message and then just stops.  It does nothing.  I know that one of the people this happens with have an iPhone.  Not sure about the others.  I was contemplating a factory reset but wanted to try to avoid that if at all possible.  Thank you
Solution: Try clearing the cache and data of your phone messaging app first and check if the issue still occurs.
  • From any Home screen, tap Apps.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Scroll to ‘PHONE,’ then tap Apps.
  • Scroll left to the ALL tab.
  • Tap the Messaging application.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Clear Data.
If you are still having messaging sending issues then wipe the cache partition of your phone.
Regarding the text message that you can’t open you are actually receiving an MMS. There are two conditions that have to be met in order for you to be able to open this type of message. First, you must have an active mobile data subscription and your mobile data must be switched on. Second, the APN settings of your phone must match that of your carrier.
To check your phone APN
  • From any Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the Connections tab.
  • Tap More networks.
  • Tap Mobile networks.
  • Tap Access Point Names.
Find the AT&T APN and open it. Compare this to the settings of your carrier. (You can get a list of the settings from the AT&T website.)
M8 Keeps Crashing
ProblemGreetings tdg I’m hoping you can help me. I have an HTC one m8 unlocked running android 5.0.1 and sense 6.0. I’ve had the phone for about a year and recently it has started acting up. First of all it keeps crashing for no apparent reason. Secondly, it has decided to restore my ringtones to the default ones and when I try to change them in the settings I get a message that the “sound picker” has unexpectedly stopped. Disabling the app and wiping its data has no effect. Another strange issue is that the factory clock app with the timer and alarm has disappeared. I’m doing my best to stay patient with the phone, trying to ignore the higher battery drain since the last update, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult… Your help would be greatly appreciated. Much thanks
Solution: It looks like there is a problem with your phone software. The best thing to do right now is to back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
M8 Can’t Send Recorded Video After Lollipop Update
ProblemHello there, It seems that I am having a problem with my HTC One M8 since last week when I responded to the AT&T message to update my Android system. The current version now is the 5.0.2. The problem that I am having is that whenever I record video to SEND, when I send, I get a message that the file is over 24mb & cannot send. Never had a problem sending video prior to this past week. Bought the phone brand new from AT&T in February. Pretty good phone. However, do not know why this is occurring. I have changed NO settings; go about sending video to social media (ex. Viber, or Email – yahoo) as had previously. Only now am getting the error message described. Can you assist? Would be grateful. Thanks!
Solution: Are you sending the video using your email? If you are then there may be a maximum file size limit set by your email provider when attaching files. I suggest you upload the video to your Google Drive account then just share its link.
M8 Calls Can’t Be Heard
ProblemWhen i make calls or when people call me , they cant seem to hear me . But when i put it on speaker phone they can hear me . Can i please get some help?
Solution: Try to check the microphone hole of your phone for any signs of dirt or lint. This may affect the quality of your calls to the point that the other party is unable to hear you. Clean the hole with a toothpick if you spot any dirt or lint.
To verify if the issue only occurs when you make a call open your voice recorder app and do a voice recording. If you can hear your voice when you playback the file then this may just be a software related issue.
You should first try to wipe the cache partition of your phone.
If the problem persists then back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
If you can’t hear your voice on the recorded message then this may already be a hardware related problem. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
M8 Google Play Movies Not Playing
ProblemThank you for your excellent series on m8 problems and your offer to help. My device works wonderfully, but a few months ago I stopped being able to play movies downloaded through Google play. Online viewing is fine, but I spend hours on buses without wifi. I contacted Google after repeatedly trying the help instructions. They couldn’t help. I uninstalled movies, cleared the app cache, and that didn’t help. I also uninstalled and reinstalled Google play movies. Finally, I did a soft reboot to clear out all caches. Nothing has worked. Do you have any ideas?
Solution: The downloaded file may be corrupt. Are the downloaded files saved in the internal storage of your phone or on the microSD? If it is in the microSD then try getting a new one then download the movies again.
M8 Loses Signal / Reboots Randomly
Problem: Hi there, Well we are at a total loss about this issue. I had my son write down exactly what the phone was doing. AT &T was totally useless! They were jerks. He has gone up there several times and they told him he needed a new phone but he has only had the phone 1 1/2 so contract is not up yet. He had to pull out his old iPhone.
  1. When the phone works it never seems to be able to keep full bars of reception. It usually has 2-3 out of 5.
  2. After a little bit of time it will lose all bars and show the “X” symbol over the 5 bars.
  3. After about a minute with the “X” symbol the phone will automatically restart itself.
  4. If the reception returns after the restart the phone will work for a short amount of time until the symbol appears again then the phone will restart.
  5. If the phone still shows the “X” symbol when it restarts it will stay on for about a minute then restart automatically. It will continue to do this until it regains reception for a time.
  6. If you go to settings while the phone shows the “X” symbol under mobile data it will say “Disconnected because service is unavailable”.
  7. Phone has no problem connecting to Wi-Fi no matter how many bars of reception.
Any ideas?? HTC had him try this:
  • Please turn your phone off.
  • With the phone off, press and hold the low volume key and the power button.
  • Both at the same time. Until you see three Androids on skateboards.
  • Then select the Recovery option, pressing one time the power button.
  • If you get a red triangle with an exclamation mark, press and hold the up volume key and then press one time the power button.
  • Then you’ll have a black screen, blue letters, go to the Wipe Cache Partition option, please.
  • Then select Reboot system now.
He said that he did all this with the AT&T tech person. He said it worked for an hour and then started doing the same thing. He gets 5 bars and connects to 4G.  This time it started the rebooting after 5 minutes
Solution: I see that you already tried wiping the cache partition of your phone. The next step to do if the issue still remains is to back up your phone data and do a factory reset.
If the problem still persists at this point then it may be caused by a faulty hardware. Bring your phone to an authorized service center and have it checked.
